Prevent Child Abuse Rhode Island

Strong families...strong communities...safe kids

What You Can Do

If you suspect that a child is being abused or neglected call the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth & Families at

1-800-RICHILD (1-800-742-4453)

If the child is in a state other than Rhode Island call the local child protective services agency for that state. Click here for a list of child abuse reporting hotline numbers by state.

YOU can help prevent child abuse and neglect!
  • Be a nurturing parent

  • Get involved - advocate for services for children and families

  • Help a friend, relative or neighbor if they are having trouble with their child

  • Become a mentor or Foster Parent

  • Help us distribute parenting education materials

Remember: Reporting a suspicion of child abuse and neglect is not an accusation. It is simply reporting a concern to the authorities who will make a determination of the situation. A report of suspected child abuse is a responsible attempt to protect a child.  You are the first line of defense for the protection of a child. Don't ever give up!
